The country is located on the Balkan Peninsula, bordering the Adriatic Sea. It has an ancient history and culture. Its territory was inhabited by the Illyrians. Montenegro has been the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, and later of Yugoslavia. Since 2006 it is an independent state.
